We have a Wireless Network and I need to know the differences between 802.11b (which we currently have) and 802.11a.

Is 802.11a better than 802.11b ? Is 802.11a 128-bit Encryption ?

Will current Cisco Wireless products run 802.11a or will we have to upgrade ?

Both 802.11a and 802.11b can deliver data at distances of 100 feet or more from a wireless access point. 802.11b was actually introduced first. It is being used worldwide and is growing very rapidly. 802.11b operates in the 2.4 GHz band, and currently supports data rates up to 11 Mbps but should increase to 22+ Mbps in the near future. 802.11a uses the 5GHz band and will support data rates up to 54 Mbps over the next year or two, rising to potentially 100 Mbps in the future.
