Hi All
Can anyone tell me what the process is if a WLC sees other access points that are not controlled by it?
Does it seem them as rogue and alert you?
If the AP is on the same channel as the interfering one, will the Cisco WLC automatically change the channel on the access point?

Hi
Access Points managed from a WLC sends every 60 seconds a hash thanks to the Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP). If another Access Points which belongs to the same WLC receives this hash, it send an answer back and they both know they are valid neighbors. This messages is send at the highest power level and lower Data Rate in order to ensure that the message travels as far as possible.
WLC needs to be on the same RF group.
If, otherwise, the other AP does not reply to the hash, then, it will be considered a rogue AP and configured policies will be applied.
This is the process in which on WLC can ensure that a neighbor AP is or not member of the same infrastructure.
For interference purpose, the process is different. Once two APs are identified on the same channel whether they belong to the same infrastructure or not, the RRM will move the AP to different channel if the interference exceed a certain interference level.
A special feature called ClearAir is used in order to identify the severity and nature of the interference. A index called Air Quality Index is generated. Then, RRM use this information in order to position Access Points and avoid interference.
