Hi All Members,

Which Cisco wireless AP's are compatible with Cisco 5580 controller? We are currently using 3600 and 3800 series AP's and these AP's EoL and EoS announcement declared by Cisco. Kindly share the new models those not falling in EoL and EoS list.

Your urgent response is awaited.

You can if the cost isn’t an issue. Here is a compatibility matrix you should keep handy that shows what devices are compatible with what code:

That will depend entirely on what firmware version the controller is running on.
The list of supported APs are normally found in the Release Notes under the Supported Cisco Access Point Platforms section.

Hi Leo,

Thanks for your quick response.

First there is need to correction in Cisco WLC model which is 5508 not 5580.

Cisco WLC 5508 is supported software releases from 6.0.x till 8.5 so we will upgrade its firmware according to our requirement because we want to procure new Cisco model APs which not falling in EoL & EoS list as available on Cisco website. Cisco WLC 5508 software releases support snap is attached for your reference. Further as per my understanding; Cisco AP 3800 series APs EoL & EoS not announced by Cisco so I think this AP can consider in our requirement and you also suggest some more cost effective APs with respect to 8.5 software release.

Hope you understand my point.

The AP can also load Mobility Express and has a limited WLC functionality.

Hi Leo,

Can you suggest some more cost effective APs model as compare with 3800 series AP? Because 3800 APs prices is very high which is not feasible for us.

Your usual response will be highly appreciated.

Typically the 1x00 series is the entry level AP, 2x00 series is the middle and the high end is the 3x00. The code supported on the WLC will determine what AP is also supported. Since the 5508 only supports up to 8.5 code, you can look at the 1700, 2700 and or 3700. They are end of sale but still work well with the 5508.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for your informative response.

Can I also consider 3800 series with WLC 5508? Also one more thing, if I upgrade WLC 5508 software version to 8.5 then its possible to select latest APs model like mentioned below (which is announced for EoL & EoS list).

Aironet 1800 series

Aironet 2800 series

Aironet 4800 series

Your usual response awaited.

Hi Scott,

Thanks a lot for your advise and sharing the compatibility matrix to select APs according to our WLC maximum supported software codes.
