Hi, I've assumed responsibility for a network, and they have deployed AIR-CAP1602E-A-K9 AP's
at remote locations.
They're hooked into injectors, which of course are fed from a switch.
I need to buy another one, but I'm confused in that I'm reading on these forums that:
"Well the standalone model doesn't support features the the WLC support like RRM and CleanAir for example.
So if you want these features, you need the AIR-CAP and a WLC.
and..
The reason they offer two models is because some don't have the funds to purchase a WLC which is required for a CAP.
So, I'm just curious how we're running the CAP models, without an external controller?
I'm sure this is just a simple education on my part..
Thanks much,
Rich

You can always convert them to autonomous standalone mode AP's. the newer x802's can't be converted to autonomous but can be used as Mobility Express. So if you look at the show version on the AP, the firmware probably has k9w7. Capwap would have k9w8.
Search capwap conversion to autonomous and you will find a lot of videos and links to how to convert.
