I have five 1142 access points on my network and I am trying to update my 2504 controller to version 8.5.135.0. If I do that will I kill the 1142's ?

8.3 is the latest supported code on the 1142.  Take a look at this matrix:

If you plan on upgrading, then look at the latest 8.2 version.

I knew I was getting close to the end. I wanted to upgrade to 8.5 based on the news of the potential threat to my access points.

The good news for me I guess is that I have some budget dollars to replace those 1142's soon. They are likely causing a bottleneck anyways.

Thanks for the quick response Scott

Depending on your budget and what AP’s you plan on getting, the matrix will help in your decision.  If you have the budget, then look at the WLC3504 controller that is replacing the WLC2504.
