Wireless Network DHCP server question?

Hi,

were setting up a wireless network for test purposes. Our question is will the Cisco 4400 series WLAN controller be able to act as a DHCP server to allocate IP information to trusted wireless devices?

2) Am I right in thinking that if the Cisco 1130AG Access Point is on the same subnet then the WLAN controller will allocate an IP address? Any tips or hints to consider when we get round to configure these, as there are due in next week!! Thanks

Martin,

The WLC will serve the clients IP address so long as the interface they are attached to, OR the WLAN override is turned on, on the WLAN to point at the WLC's management interface. Unfortuanetly, the AP needs to have an IP address before it will find the controller, since the 1130/1240 will only join in Layer3 mode, and not Layer2. So you will need to have a DHCP server that is serving the AP's and either have option 60/43 enabled, or DNS resolution to CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER that is mapped to the management interface.

Here is the DHCP Option 43 guide for windows:

Steve
