Wireless speed issues

Gurus,

I have a remote site that is 2 miles from the main site, and is connected to it with Aironet 1400 bridges, connected to external antennae. The remote location gets all of its data connectivity (internet, network, and VoIP) from its wireless link.

I have noticed a pretty tremendous loss in speed. When trying to download files from the internet, my download speed will range anywhere from 5KB to 20KB, although we have a 2MB dsl connection at the main site.

I am not very knowledgable when it comes to the wireless technologies, and am looking for some direction on what I can do to resolve this issue. When I log into the bridges, they both say "Transmission Rate - 54.0 Mb/s". My next planned course of action was to take a meter to the auxiliary ports on the bridges, and see what kind of signal strength I am measuring.

Any advice would be appreciated.

There can be several reasons that can be put forth for a slow download issue.

First, let me know what software or file you were trying to download when encountered with this slow speed issue. Also, intermittent teraffic can also slow down the speed.

Also, send me a brief overview of your network topology.
