Wireless VoIP to CE handheld - need QoS

I'm going to put together a pilot project for a client using PocketPC/CE.net handhelds over Aironet APs.

Since the .11 QoS mechanisms aren't in place, I need to be able to implement at least basic QoS parameters manually. I want to ensure that the Call Quality is at least as good as SpectraLink's SVP.

I'm planning on Bringing in one of Vernier's wireless policy management systems, but would like any and all input on QoS/ToS mechanisms that have been used for Voice over WiFi.

You might be surprised to find out that unless you implement voice on PocketPC on a device with some kind of DSP chip, the voice quality degradation effect using software codecs on PocketPC will be greater than any lost quality of no QoS in the wireless LAN.

I use a 802.11b VoIP handset (with DSP) every day in the office and have no problems with voice quality--even though there is no QoS on the wireless LAN.

We also saw great quality in our testing, but that was with a limited number of devices.

If Symbol or SpectraLink would make a CF card that incorporated both 802.11b and QoS, we wouldn't be left trying to explain to customers why devices that cost so much (NetVision and NetLink) don't have PDA functions.
