Is wireless lan controller required when deploying 40 2700access points through 4 2906x switches ( 1switch per 10 APs)?

Will  a single 2500 wlan controller connected to one of the switches be sufficient for this?

Hi,

Yes one WLC will also work but make sure that this WLC have enough AP license.

Info: Better to buy  two wlc for the sake of redundancy.

AIR-CT2504-50-K9      - primary
AIR-CT2504-HA-K9     -  Secondary

*** secondary WLC is not so expensive, so I will recommend to buy this one with HA license .

Can we deploy the access points without the WLC? Is WLC a must or only required for centralized management

Of course you can but 40 APs without WLC is not a good solution.

How will you manage these APs?

WLC is best device to mange configure APs.

If you WLC then you just need to plug/play APs(zero conifg).
