 - For the time being I would consider the original message as harmless and ignore it (keep using the controller(s)). Sometimes these are left overs from processes supposing to give a final-OK status , not done, but they have finished doing their job. You may want to configure a syslog server on  the controller, keep watching messages at regular intervals , check if anything comes up related to this.

  - Some other 'good stuff' : - on controller use CLI/SSH : show tech wireless , have the output analyzed by : https://cway.cisco.com/tools/WirelessAnalyzer/ , you will find lots of advisories about the current configuration.

I got the show tech-suport analyzed by the Wireless Analyzer, but no sucessfull related to the message:

There is an install operation in progress. Please wait

So, it's seems to be something like a bug, because on the cli output we can see the new software as "commited"

 - Ok . remember that for Wireless Analyzer it really needs show tech wireless  ,    not simply show tech-support  , if done than it is to be considered as a harmless bug (indeed) , remember to use a syslog server too.

How is that even possible?  That is not suppose to work.

The WLC is on 17.3.5a so the SMU/APSP/APDP should only "accept" the same version.  It should reject the APSP meant for a different version.
I have seen this exact issue when applying 16.12.4 SMU.

I suspect the APSP will need to be manually uninstalled or removed.

APSP C bootflash:C9800-L-universalk9_wlc.17.03.04.CSCvz17868.SPA.apsp.bin!

So on the old version 17.3.4 it was need on the AP, but on the new version anymore.

How can I remote it ? It was expected to be removed by ISSU itself.

I would like to recommend you contact TAC or developers so they can fix this.

The TAC Team said:

"Brief summary. As part of troubleshooting this, it is advised to use the install activate issu command before completing the AP pre-download. This applies when you run the install activate issu command before completing AP pre-download. In such instances, you should run the ap image predownload command and then proceed with the activation. Likewise, this seems to be a message that you can dismiss. It might be missing from processes supposing to give a final status, but they have finished doing their task. You should configure a Syslog server on the WLC, and watch any output at regular intervals to check if anything comes up related to this."

So, in future I'll try to reboot de WLCs throught the switchover.

I am not sure what TAC is troubleshooting but it does not answer the question as to why the 17.3.4 SMU is still "installed" in a 17.3.5a firmware.
