WLC & CAPWAPs Troubleshooting

We have 2 Cisco 4400 series WLC and a whole bunch of 1231G APs connected to it.

Sometimes the wireless network get really, really slow.

Does Cisco have any built in tools for troubleshooting bandwidth or sluggishness issues?

And how does one go ahead and troubleshoot something like that?

there is nothing embedded in the WLC ti troubleshoot that type of issue, no net flow on the WLC.

How many ports do you have configured on the WLC and switches? His many clients and what types of traffic are they generating? I.e. just web, voice,video etc. how many AP?

At one point we had 160 clients, out of which 140 are associated and out of that 100 are authenticated.  So really only 100 clients.  We have about 30 APs, 10 or so from remote offices (internet still comes back to us).  This setup worked fine until we had board members come in on their IPADs and needed to update our app.  About 20-30 of them started to download it and it really bogged down the wireless.  Testing with the IPhone, I got a throughput of less than 56KB/s, today with practically no one using it, I got 256KB/s.

So there's no way to check how much bandwidth the APs are using as a total?

Only by running netflow or some other bandwidth tools on the LAN and WAN.

I would add...

Where is your slowness comng from ? Do you really know?

1) I might check the wireles medium. If you have 1 PHY rate enabled you could have very high channel utilzation impacting your wifi medium. In some enviroments Ive seen 50% channel utilzation with NO traffic, it was all managment frames

2) Wireshark/Omnipeek the ports on the switch going to the WLC. You can see the amount of traffic actually going through.
