WLC migration from 8510 to vWLC or 5520

Hi, 

I just learned that there is no way to migrate existing licenses from a 8510 to a 9800-40 since the models are so different. 

What about moving the licenses from the 8510 to either a vWLC or to a 5520?

Is it the same scenario, that you can´t bring your already purchased licenses since they are model specific?

The adder license is unique to the wlc model.

Trying to figure out the best migration path here.

They will sell Meraki going forward so this a fading out solution.

The license model has changed, so no it will not transfer. Typically you work with your Cisco rep or Cisco var and they sometimes can get you license if migrating. Moving to a whole different solution because of licensing is not the right choice if the operation staff is familiar with Cisco for example. Meraki also has licensing that you would have to pay for yearly depending on the licensing model you choose. You should just look at the 9800 and the new AP’s because that is the new direction Cisco is moving towards.
