I have created a port-channel for a switch that will trunk data from servers to my nexus core. When configuring the pc I couldn't not get it to communicate till I used "spanning-tree port type normal". The pc is set for trunking and I have data going across but I would have thought that I would have used network instead of normal. Can anyone help me better understand this?

You can check on internet lots of good article can help to you understand different network topology.
Three configuration you can make on Interface :
spanning-tree port type normal
spanning-tree port type edge
spanning-tree port type network
Normal - Just like legacy spanning tree configuration.
Edge - For end host just like legacy port-fast configuration.
Network - This is little bit different and you should only run this when peer device is supported by bridge assurance if not then port will go into blocking state.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
