Hi all,
We want to understand how much WAAS can optimize FTP traffic, we are having server to server FTP traffic running every day, would like to understand if we can design WAN without WAAS.
Since using WAAS on only one server on spoke site is not a feasible option, please help to get this clarified.
Please help me to clarify how much WAAS can do effective optimisation on FTP traffic in specific.
Thanks,
jimmy

Hi Jimmy,
For optimization of FTP traffic, I think would be good to use LZ compression and DRE ( if there a lot of data that going through the WAN the same again and again) then that would give a very good benefit.
But for this, you need to have a 2 WAAS devices client-WAAS---wan----WAAS--server.
If you have only one WAAS, the connection will be bypassed, and in this case better to do not route this traffic to WAAS at all ( if you are using WCCP, create a wccp-acl that denies this traffic) to reduce the usage of the link.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Alex

Hi,
Please share more details about the WCCP setup in both ends (on the routers).
Does it block the traffic, or just not optimize it ?
Best Regards

Thanks Fin for reply. When I uncheck the WCCP option, FTP works and files gets transferred. When I check the WCCP option , file does not get transferred and FTP probably fails. Please let me know which portion of config you need. Thanks.

Hi,
On the routers at both end of the WAN, I need :
The latter two must be taken when WCCP is enabled, and FTP thus blocked.
