C9500-32C Initial Setup

Daniel Davidson

I am trying to setup a C9500-32C with our nexus 7706, and I cannot get the two to bring up the link between them.  The 7706 is in production and has one existing 100Gb port in use that is functional, so I think the primary problem would be with the C9500.  This is my first attempt at configuring a C9500, so I am guessing there is something that I am missing. Can someone give me some pointers or direct me to an article or howto on this?

I have tried both 100gbps fiber modules and copper cables, with both having the same issues.

why the speed setup on the interface if you try to connect 100G speed ?

Also nexus side why it showing as unknown :

sw-server-7706# show interface eth1/2 transceiver details
Ethernet1/2
transceiver is present
type is QSFP-100G-Unknown

have you tried same loop on the nexus side, is the port come up.

try disabling FEC and test it :

Hello!

Could you display the configuration on the port and the following commands:
show run int hun1/0/XX
show int hun1/0/XX
show int hun1/0/XX transceiver detail
show inventory

Does the switch C9500-32C even recognise the 100gbps modules? You can check the tmx matrix on cisco if it is supported.

Tell us about what mode of SFP single more or Multi mode ?

how far they installed (distance between both the devices ?)

can you post interface configuration of each port ?

what IOS/ nexus code running on the each device ?

Hope you trying both the side same SFP Modules (if so can you give full details of the SFP Module)

i am thinking only wrong cables you using i am in guess, if they going via different distribution- have you tried swaping the cable end ( TX to RX)

I have a copper qsfp cable and multimode transceivers that I try.  If I do a loopback on the C9500-32C, both links light up, so the cables/transceivers should be fine.  Will get the show int information in a bit.

No nego

In Cisco catalyst 9000 SW interface

MHM

why the speed setup on the interface if you try to connect 100G speed ?

Also nexus side why it showing as unknown :

sw-server-7706# show interface eth1/2 transceiver details
Ethernet1/2
transceiver is present
type is QSFP-100G-Unknown

have you tried same loop on the nexus side, is the port come up.

try disabling FEC and test it :

Disabling FEC on the Nexus side brought the link up.  Is there something I should do on that side to get FEC to work or do I just need to leave it down?

Is there something I should do on that side to get FEC to work or do I just need to leave it down?

On that side means cat 9500 side , if the Link up and running - i would not expect anything to do on cat 9500

if this solves  the issue, can we mark as resolved
