DNAC Templates for individual devices

dm2020

Hi All,

I have DNAC setup with a basic hierarchy that consists of a single area, building and 4 floors. I have switches allocated across all floors of the building

I have configured generic templates for updating settings across all switches which I have assigned to a Network switching profile which is then assigned to the building level of the hierarchy. This works well but I now need to apply a more granular configuration to a single switch located on one floor and have struggled to find any documentation on how to achieve this.

One possible option is to use tags but I am yet to test this. Has anyone tested this before? Is there a better way of doing this?

This is the procedure that I have come up with:

1) Tag the switch with its individual hostname such as 'flr1-access-sw1'

2) Create a template for the individual switch and reference the above tag within the properties of the template

3) Assign the template to the above switching network profile

4) Provision.

Thanks

What about using a Composite Template?  You can tie the two templates together then, and apply the new profile to the floor level.

If there are otherwise identical switches of the same floor that DON'T need the changes, then you will have to use tags.  You can create the tag in the inventory (label it whatever you want).  In the Template Editor, click on the gear icon of your new, more granular template, and select properties.  There is a section there (in the popout menu) to add tags.  Then, in your network profile, there is also a spot to select which tags you want the template to apply to when provisioning.
