Hello there!
I'm interested in MultiChassis Etherchannel and MSTP in the same L2 domain.
Question 1: MultiChassis Etherchannel (MEC) for Catalyst 9k is supported only with StackWise virtual, is it correct?
Question 2: Is it mandatory to enable StackWise virtual between two switches to be able to configure MEC? In other words, is it mandatory to have a single management plane to be able to use MEC, which is mainly only control/data plane?
Question 3: Assume a topology with a first pair SWV1 used as core switches. A second pair SWV2 is used as access layer connected via MEC to SWV1. Then a third pair are non Cisco switches cross-connected with traditional MSTP to SWV1. Is this mix of MEC and MSTP possible? Have you had experience with it?
Thanks and regards, rootswitch.

No MEC can run in
- nexus vpc
- cat stackwise
- cat stackwise virtual
You need to have technology merging two controls plane into one.
For third Q can you more elaborate

Thanks MHM. Concerning the third question, I have attached a sketch now. StackWise Virtual (SWV) 1 and 2 use for example Catalyst 9500. SWV1 (L3/L2) and SWV2 (L2) are connected via MEC. The Traditional Switch Pair (TSWP) is a pair of L2 switches from another vendor. I need also vlans to span all three pairs. Due to the presence of TSWP I need to configure Multiple Spanning Tree protocol in the SWV1 and TSWP right? My question is if this protocol coexist with SWV and MEC or MEC and MSTP are mutually exclusive?
Thanks and regards.

Thanks! Can you suggest a reference document where it is written that xSTP is possible to use with SWV/MEC? I have to show to my team.
Thanks and regards.

Hmm...But I cannot use Nexus, only Catalyst.
Thanks and Regards.
