Could I use qemu-ing tool to convert cisco IOS bin file to qcow2/qcow? if not, is there a tool that I can use to covert the image?

Thank you.

Hello @SDhaliwal

The process of converting a Cisco IOS binary image file to the qcow2 or qcow format using QEMU is not straightforward, as these formats are primarily used for virtual machines rather than networking devices like Cisco routers.

Convert the Cisco IOS binary image to the vmdk format using a tool like qemu-img.

Once in vmdk format, you can use it with QEMU, but keep in mind that this might not be a straightforward solution, and compatibility issues may arise.

Best regards

what is purpose ?  you can try but image may not work in new virtual lab if such image is not supported; check docs for supported images for particular virtual lab environmental

@balaji.bandi

The reason why I wanted to convert BIN file QCOW is to test out the code set for CAT9K which cisco doesn't offer virtual IOS image, that was one of the reason why we bought CML.

Thank you for all the responses and confirming my suspicion.

A Cat 9000v beta image is on the latest CML refplat.

Disclaimer: I am long in CSCO

as already mentioned Cat 9K available with limited option L2
