We are setting up a test environment in vSphere that will use VMs and need to emulate customer’s physical switches and routers.
We have CML running on an ESXi Server.
As a first test, a customer has provided us with a 3850 fiber switch configuration file and something called a TPL file.
Based on our understating, they use in-house software that sets up the switch with a TPL file and then pushes the configuration file to the physical switch.
Our first goal is to set up the 3850 in CML, then use their in-house software to set up the switch with a TPL file and then pushes the configuration file to the physical switch.
Question is
thanks

it can not emulate 3850 what you looking for, instead, the vIOS Layer2 can act as you look, most command syntax same.

No, CML emulate the 3850; neither any other emulator or simulator out there. those are focus more on software side of things rather then hardware. GNS3 uses routers images but none for switches. Just get used c3850 switch from ebay.

This sounds like we have no options with any commercial or free software to emulate the 3850?
We have to get a real 3850 to do this testing?
Which may be difficult to get approves to add to our environment.

as we said NO - there is nothing available you like to simulate to apple to apple. but as we made suggestion, the software can be same to get used to commands vIOS and IOL.
So now your turn to decide, use what available, or convence management to get used 3850 to hands on.
