error while removing a port from a vlan

I am getting error while removing port from the vlan 40

interface gigabitethernet20

no switchport access vlan 40

showing error-wrong number of parameters or invalid range size or characters entered

We properly need alittle more information to help you with your problem. What device is this?

Is it possible for you to just use "switchport access vlan <another_vlan_number>" with the vlan you want the port to be in instead, to overwite the vlan 40?
