Hello, I have a IPVC-3515-MCU12 that need a password recovery, I found that I need to use the terminal cable that ships with the unit or a null cable, I don't have the original cable so I'm looking to fix it with null cable.
I tried with a serial cable USB to DB-9 and it doesn't work, can someone help me on what it's the correct connection for null cable.
Regards,
Juan Carlos Arias

HI Juan,
Try with entering the following command: modifyTargetDevice and press Enter. See if that will provide you with the menu options.

Hi Juan,
Make sure you configure hyperterminal settings as follows:

See if that will connect you properly. Once you are in, and access the main menu options, to change the password follow these instructions:
Press any key to start configuration...
Main menu
N: Configure default network port values
P: Change the configuration software password
S: Configure network security mode
A: Advanced configuration menu
Q: Quit
Select:
I hope this will help.

Hello Dejan, thanks for your help, I still have some problem, when I start MCU the message "Press any key to start configuration" never appears, there is down counter that does the same if press or not any key, the Network Configuration menu never appears, I can only see the boot events. Something like this:

Hello Dejan, I could change the password, but how do I configure MCU 3515 appliance? I mean which commands use to configure it?? There is no GUI access??
02-05-2015 12:58 PM
Hi Juan,
With what product are you using this 3515 device? As a stand alone or integrated with something else. I am familiar with this product only if used as Hardware Media Server for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace product. And normally, with that kind of a firmware loaded, once you configure IP address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway on in the hyperterminal session and connect the device to the network, you should be able to access Web interface by going to the IP address of the device and login with admin credentials you've created.
However, if this is some different kind of integration, I may not be able to help you.

Hello Dejan,
Integrated with CUCM for video conference. On a browser I input IP address and have no access, no page loaded.
I appreciate your help and if you have something else that could help me, it will be great,
Juan Carlos Arias

Hi Juan,
For that piece, I would advise you to submit that specific questions to Unified Communications Application community group as they can help you with the actual CUCM integration and configuration. They should know what firmware should be loaded and how to configure it.
Unfortunately, this community is only for Cisco WebEx Meetings Server (that doesn't use 3515 devices) and Cisco Unified MeetingPlace product that does use it as Hardware Media Server but with a very specific firmware loaded.
Kind regards,
-Dejan

You can find all the configuration guides for the 3515 on the Cisco Web site - here's an example: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/video/cuvc/5_6/mcu/3515/configuration/guide/cfg-guide-Wrapper.html

Hello Wayne, thanks for your link, but the problem before continue with this file, is that I can't access via GUI, it's not responding, and I'm looking how to restore it.

Have you followed all the steps in the "Setting Up Your Cisco Unified Videoconferencing 3515 MCU" section of the Admin guide: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/video/cuvc/5_0/mcu/3515/administration/guide/1umcu50ag/setup.html
That section details how to configure all the IP settings for the MCU and the Video Processing Module from the command line. Note: the IP address of the VPM must be different than the IP address configured for the MCU. This section also describes how to set (or change) the web server port which may have been set previously to something other than one of the standard ports, hence why you are unable to access it with your browser.
Also, you mentioned you were just trying to access the device with the IP address in your browser. To get to the admin page you need to go to http://<ipaddress>/admin

Hello Wayne, I review again all the requirements and it seems to be right, but don't have access via GUI, I'll try openning a report on TAC.

You can find the pinout for the Cisco/Codian MCU cable here: cisco_telepresence_codian_serial_cable_pinout_kb_119.html
Note: Your question would be better placed in the TelePresence section of the forums where these devices are more actively discussed than in the Conferencing section you've posted in - I'd suggest, if the above hasn't answered your query, that you move your discussion over there.
