I have not seen it mentioned but when will archiving, eDiscovery and retention of IM conversations be supported and on which platforms?

This is supported today on both on-premise CUP and WebEx SaaS. Here are the on-premise documents:

If you want a eDiscovery product (vs. just a raw database export) you can look at Actiance Vantage.
