Hello,
This is a quick one that I can't find the answer to...
Can Cisco Jabber be used as just a softphone for Unified Call Manager 11.5?
If not (Cisco IM&P required?), is there a softphone that replaced IP Communicator for use with UCM?
And lastly for bonus credit - we have the BE6000 Edition of Unified Call Manager. I notice when logging into vSphere/VMWare that there are a number of VM's pre-deployed. Currently, we're using UCM and UCCX - but, there is PCP and IMP (as well as others) which I'm not sure if licenses for these come with the BE6000 license. Anyone else using these Business Editions, and are they licensed for everything that's preinstalled?
Thank you!

Phone Mode—In Phone mode, the user's primary authentication is to Cisco Unified Communications Manager. To deploy phone mode, provision users with devices for audio and video capabilities. You can also provision users with additional services such as voicemail.

No, you only get to choose Jabber or CIPC from Cisco.

Thanks, Jaime.
Any chance you could link more information about an on-premises phone-mode deployment? I keep going in a loop and getting back to
But, this keeps talking about enabling services for IM&P server. I figured that Phone-Mode didn't require IM&P server, based on your reply?
And, "provision user with devices for audio and video mode" - so, our users have their deskphone as a Controlled and Primary device. These are old 7942's, so no video - does that matter? There is also no Jabber device when trying to add a new e-phone - but there is a Jabber for Tablet device?
I don't usually get this stuck trying to find the correct doco via the Cisco website... Still, it feels like using Cisco Jabber isn't possible without IM&P (apart from that single reference you sent).
I thought Cisco IP Communicator was completely abandoned many years ago and replaced by Cisco Jabber - is this not the case? At this point, I just want a decent Cisco-supported softphone to supply to remote workers - we used to use IP Communicator on CUCM 6.0.

Yes, phone only mode only requires CUCM, basically, follow the same config steps you'll find in any Jabber config guide for the CUCM side, don't enable the user for IM&P and don't configure a UC service for IM&P, that's it.
No, it doesn't matter, you can use the 7942 for deskphone control.
All of the configuration, including what device type to use, depending on Jabber client, is in the Jabber configuration guides.

No, CIPC is still available, you can refer to the RN for compatibility info.
