Hi,
Is it (or will it be) possible to search Google Contacts in the cloud with a IM and Presence On-Prem solution?
I think at the moment Jabber only supports local contact searches for Outlook/Notes and there is no way to enable Jabber to search private contacts in the cloud, or?
A customer is moving to the cloud based google solution.
Thanks
BR

Roadmap questions are NDA material and cannot be discussed here, if you're partner, ask in the partner communities, otherwise, ask this via your SE.
Yes, at the moment you need to have a local directory source.

This is actually possible today on Apple macOS where Jabber supports the OS-level Contacts.app. On Windows the GMail user would need to use the GSSMO plugin for Outlook. Anything future-looking is NDA-protected as Jaime mentioned and cannot be discussed here.

+5, I never though of that, instead of a direct integration, you're using contacts and Outlook to proxy the contacts from cloud.

This actually doesn't work or supported.
Add Local Contacts from Microsoft Outlook
Cisco Jabber for Windows lets users search for and add local contacts in Microsoft Outlook.
All local contacts in Microsoft Outlook must have instant message addresses and phone numbers. These details allow client users to do the following:
add local Microsoft Outlook contact to their contact lists
see contact photos from the client
send instant messages to local contacts
call local contacts from the client
Administrator Tasks
To enable this integration with Microsoft Outlook, you must enable Cached Exchange Mode on the Microsoft Exchange server.
To allow users to search for local contacts in Microsoft Outlook from the client, users must have profiles set in Microsoft Outlook.
User Tasks
Users must set the correct calendar preference on the client.
Select File > Options.
Select the Calendar tab.
Select Microsoft Outlook.
Restart Cisco Jabber to apply the change.
The critical requirement is the cache mode which only works with Exchange and not Gmail or any other third-party email system.
