The persistent chat notifications stay up even after I've pulled up the chat and responded. They should go away once I've given focus to the chat relative to the notification.
Also, I only need one notification per conversation. A notification for every message is ridiculous. Add to the that fact that I have to manually dismiss ever single notification... come on guys, have you actually used your own program?

Have you considered switching to Webex for chat conversations? We use Webex for chats and calling and it doesn't have the issues that Jabber has with Chat. Messages appear in Webex Spaces regardless of how you access them and the alert counts up as there are additional replies. Once you open the space, the alert goes away. The issue you're describing with Jabber is very similar to what I see with MS Teams which is why I prefer Webex for all my work chat conversations.

Thanks for the suggestion! I only have Webex for Meetings. Is there a separate program called Webex for Chat?

The is an application named just Webex that combines the functionality from these three applications, Webex Meetings, Jabber and Cisco Proximity. It was formerly known as Webex Teams and even longer back as Spark.
