Smaller Windows

I have drug the edges of window that shows my Contacts to maker it as small as possible but it is still 1/4 the width and 2/3 the height of my screen.  Is there any way to make this smaller?  This is way too big and therefore intrusive.  I would also like to not show my picture as this could help further reduce the window size.

The same holds true for the IM window.  Much larger than is useful.

And as a point of reference, I have 2 monitors and still find these items to be in the way.

What resolution do you have on those?????

I have 1080p on my two monitors and it does not reduce beyond a certain size, but it certainly doesn't take that much.

 1440 x 900, the highest setting I can get.  And others are saying the same around here.  Version 10.6.1 Build 55781  It is like an ugly cartoon. If I have the IM and Contacts windows, at their smallest, stacked, they overlap.  If it was just me I would be looking at my system, but since other help desk professionals here have said the same I am hoping there is SOME way to make these small enough to be usable.
