Using Tandberg TTC7-08 as webcam

Can the Tandberg TTC7-08 be used as a simple USB webcam?  We no longer use the unit via ISDN and would like to connect to a computer directly for small scale video conferencing, such as Lync, Skype etc.

The USB connector has always been labelled "For future use" in all releases of the software and documentation.  Being a USB Type A socket, it's be for connection of a USB Flash Drive (or something similar) to the device for it to display what is on that device as content, or for firmware upgrades, or similar - not to be used to connect the device to a PC to use the camera.

Firstly, your question would be better placed in the TelePresence section of the forums, rather than the Conferencing section you have posted in.  These devices are more actively discussed over there, so I'd suggest you move your post.

But, to answer your question, No, the unit cannot be used as a "USB Camera".  It doesn't even have USB connectivity on the device.

You can however, connect it to your network via the Ethernet connection and use it as an IP based Video Conferecing unit instead of using it over ISDN to talk to standards based H.323 (or SIP with the newer firmware releases) endpoints/software.

Bear in mind though, this device is quite old, and has a Last Day of Hardware Support from Cisco on 31 January 2015 (if you've got an active service contract), so it's be worth looking at a suitable replacement anyway.

Thanks for the response Wayne.  Any idea what the usb port on the device is used for?  Located next to the power.
