Cisco Jabber extends enterprise communications applications and services to iPhones by providing users with voice over IP (VoIP) calling, visual voicemail, and access to the corporate directory.
Configure VPN in iPhone Settings
- Connect to WiFi or 3G
- Open Settings > General > Network > VPN
- Tap Add VPN Configuration and tap L2TP
- Enter these settings:
- Description: Cisco
- Server: 128.107.235.146
- Account: appleuser0 (zero) or appleuser1
- RSA SecurID: OFF
- Password: cisco123
- Secret: cisco123
- Send All Traffic: ON
- Proxy: Off
- Tap Save
- Choose a Configuration: Tap Cisco
- Turn VPN on
Note: Outgoing VPN connections to other organizations might be blocked within Apple's corporate Wi-Fi network. If you encounter any issues with the VPN connection over Apple Wi-Fi, use the 3G network or any non-Apple public or private Wi-Fi networks (home, Starbucks, etc.
Set Up Your Account
Most of the settings will be downloaded and automatically populated once the initial connection to the back-end services are established.
- Make sure you are connected to the VPN before using Cisco Jabber
- Open Cisco Jabber
- Tap Accept to accept the End User License Agreement
- Tap Enter Account Settings
- Tap Begin
Unified Communications Manager – Account Setup
- Tap Yes to configure a communications manager account
- Internet Calling Enter:
- Device ID: TCTAPP0 (zero) or TCTAPP1
- Note: Assign a different Device ID to each iPhone you configure for testing
- TFTP Server: 10.21.171.153
- Tap Save
- Tap Yes if you receive a pop up "Connect over 3G?
Desk Phone Integration Setup
Desk Phone Integration requires a Cisco Unified IP Phone.
Because you do not have physical access to a Cisco Unified IP Phone, this optional feature is not enabled.
- Tap No to skip the desk phone integration setup
Unified Messaging – Account Setup
- Tap Continue
- These settings are automatically configured:
- User Name: appleuser0 or appleuser1
- Server: 10.21.171.151
- Port: (blank)
- Enter the Password: adadad
- Tap Save
Corporate Directory – Account Setup
- Tap Continue
- These settings are automatically configured:
- Server: 10.21.171.152
- Port: 3268
- Use SSL: OFF
- Search Base: dc=ciscodemo,dc=…
- User Authentication: ON with these settings automatically configured:
- Tap Save - see “Cisco Jabber is ready”
- Tap Continue to begin using Cisco Jabber
Verify Your Connection Status
The icons on your status bar indicate your connection status. If you see any icon other than a green phone, please contact Cisco as this may indicate a connection problem or a problem with a backend server in our lab. If there is a problem, tap the connection status symbol to check the details of your connection status. Contact Cisco with information about what services are failing.
Green phone
You are connected and all features are available.
Green checkmark
Voicemail and corporate directory search features are available, but Internet calling features are not. Tap the icon for details, and contact Cisco with this information.
Yellow triangle
Internet calling features are available, but there was an error establishing a connection with either voicemail or corporate directory. Tap the icon for details, and contact Cisco with this information.
Red phone
Internet calling features and other features are unavailable. Tap the icon for details, and contact Cisco with this information.
Red X
Internet calling features are not provisioned, and your voicemail and corporate directory features are disconnected. Tap the icon for details, and contact Cisco with this information.
Account Information
Your phone number in Cisco Jabber is your extension on our lab telephone network. To places calls, please provision 2 devices, one device for TCTAPP0 and one device for TCTAPP1. This will allow you to place calls between the 2 accounts.

Make Calls
- Open Cisco Jabber
- Dial an internal extension using the keypad, or select a contact from Favorites, Recents, Contacts, or Voicemail
Note: Our lab is not configured to dial or receive external or 7-digit calls.
Answer Calls
You can receive incoming calls using Cisco Jabber if it is running on your iPhone, either in the background or foreground. Incoming Cisco Jabber calls use a unique Cisco ringtone, allowing you to distinguish them from other incoming calls.
Tap Answer. When you answer the call, Cisco Jabber automatically moves to the foreground, sending other applications to the background. If you are already on a call when you receive a new incoming call, you can just ignore the new call or accept it. If you accept it, you can choose to hold or end your first call.
Hold and Resume Calls
- While on a call, tap the button on the top right of the screen to place a call on hold.
- Press it again to resume the call.
Voicemail
Within Cisco Jabber, the Voicemail tab indicates when you have a new office voice message.
To view your voicemail:
- Open Cisco Jabber
- Tap Voicemail. New messages are marked with a blue dot
- New voicemail may say "Awaiting download..." instead of the extension.
- Tap the message to play it, message will play.
Directory Search
With Cisco Jabber, you can search for your co-workers in your corporate directory.
- Open Cisco Jabber
- Tap Contacts
- Tap Directory
- Enter appleuser0 or appleuser1 in the search field at the top of the screen
- Tap Search. In the search results, you can tap a name to view their details
- Tap Copy to iPhone Contacts to add the name to your Contacts
