Core Issue
Selecting none for the audio source at the device level does not stop Music on Hold (MoH) for that device. Instead, this setting specifies the audio source that plays when the user of this phone initiates a hold action.
If you select none as the audio source, you are, in effect, not choosing an audio source. Cisco CallManager then uses the audio source defined in the device pool or the system default if the device pool does not specify an audio source ID.
Note: Define audio sources in the MoH Audio Source Configuration window. For access, select Service > Music On Hold
Resolution
To disable MoH for all users, change the Run flag under the MoH server configuration page to No.
To disable MoH for one user or a group of users, perform these steps:
- Define a Media Resource Group (MRG) without any MoH resources, and put that group into a Media Resource Group List (MRGL) for the users that you want to deny MoH access.
- Put the MoH resource into a MRG, and put that group into a MRGL for the users that you want to permit MoH access.
If this procedure does not work, perform these steps:
- Configure the Directory Numbers (DNs)/Lines and Devices with None for User Hold Audio Source and Network Hold Audio Source parameters.
- In the Device Pool configuration, set the User Hold MOH Audio Source and Network Hold MOH Audio Source to None.
- Enter an invalid or non-existing value under Default Network Hold MOH Audio Source ID and Default User Hold MOH Audio Source ID on the Service Parameters page.
- Select Service > Service Parameters, and choose CallManager for service. Search for Default Network Hold MOH Audio Source ID and Default User Hold MOH Audio Source ID. Give them a value that is not a valid or existing audio source ID. By doing this, phones that have Network Hold MOH Audio Source and User Hold MOH Audio Source set to None on their DN, Device and Device Pool settings hear just a beep only occasionally while they are on hold.
Note: There are four levels of audio source assignments, in this order:
- DN/Line level of assignment has second priority.
- Device level assignment has the third priority.
- System level assignment (on the Service Parameters page) has the fourth priority.
If there are different audio sources assigned on all four levels, the one specified on DN level is taken into account first. If you select None on DN level, then the Device level assignment is used and so on.
If the audio source assignments for DN, Device and Device Pool levels are set to None, the Cisco CallManager uses the system level assignment. If you give an invalid or nonexisting value for Default Network Hold MOH Audio Source ID and Default UserHold MOH Audio Source ID under system level (Service Parameters page), there is no MOH played for the devices that have Network Hold MOH Audio Source and User Hold MOH Audio Source set to None on the DN, Device and Device pool settings.

It was not possible to put an invalid number for me in the "MOH Audio Source ID", Service parameters.
