Capture callers name through input like get digit string

We are using IPCC Express 4.0.4 and just installed IP IVR portion of it. We want to run an application that will allow the caller to spell their name using the keys on the phone. Is there any function in IPCC the will handle this natively or any creative ways to map a letter to key presses on the phone? Like 1 would be A and 2 would be B, etc. and then concatonate that into a single variable called name?

I appreciate any suggestions.
