Cisco UCCX 7 with High Availability

Hi

We will be working on Cisco UCCX 7 with High Availability model. This UCCX solution would work with CUCM cluster comprising of a Publisher and Subscriber.

When we add the RmCm Provider, do both the CUCM servers in the cluster get added, which will be used for as the redundant CTI managers?

During the initial wizard you will see an option to add the CM servers, it is strongly suggested that you add both CMs under rmcm as well as jtapi sections. You should use the Sub as the primary one, and Pub only for backup, you should follow the same rule on CM side to ensure you use the PUB for call processing only when the sub is unavaiable.

Hi Chris,

If we use UCCX 7 in High Availability mode, with the 2 UCCX servers placed at different sites, both sites in the same campus VLAN, satifying the RTD of 2ms between the servers. Also the Setup will have a single CUCM cluster, with one UCCX server at one site with Publisher of the CUCM cluster, the second site has second UCCX server with Subscriber of the cluster.

If the link between the 2 sites goes down, will each site work independently of each other?

In case, if each site acts independently, how will data sync happen between the 2 HA servers? Is this sync to be done manually or does the UCCX platform do it automatically?

When the link goes down, the two UCCX servers work in "island mode", thus the secondary server will go to the active state. and both can receive calls.

But note that when the link goes back up, all call in the queue will be dropped during the election process.

Nicolas, as you mentioned the "island" mode, so once the link is up, will there be any issues in the data sync? how smooth is the election process between the HA-Servers.

If the link is down for less than the retention period (default is 4 days), then the UCCX-SUB will be synchronized automatically without any intervention.

If it's more than retention period then the UCCX SUB has to be manually "reinitialized" preferably at off peak hours.

As for the election process, well it's smooth in the fact that you don't need to do anything manually. But the problem will be that some services will be in the master state on the 1st server while the other services will be in the master state on the second UCCX. (So you will have the master services split on both servers). I don't know the impact of that but i've always made sure that all of the master services are on the 1st UCCX (You can do that by restarting the 2nd server and if that doesn't work then simply shut it down and then boot it up after making sure the 1st UCCX has all master services)

PS: if the servers don't see each other in 2 ms then they are considered as disconnected from the other and will go to island mode (both will be masters until they see each other again).

Continuing this topic, what happens if the Publisher CUCM goes down and the active UCCX is >2msec away from the subscriber CUCM?

Well in two words bad design.

When the PUB is down, you should expect to have delays with calls being transferred to agents.

well, i understand it. But that's the only way to have uccx over the wan.

Unfortunately until now there is no support for UCCX over the WAN.

I heard that it's going to be available in version 8.

So if you have to use UCCX over the WAN, then you will have to swing it and hope your PUB doesn't go down :).
