Can the ASA 1000v be deployed alone or does it require nexus 1000v switch?
What are major differences between ASAv and ASA 1000v and what use cases are most appropriate for each ?

I have the same question. Need some help. Our v-switch is AVS and we u sings ACI. But my license PAKs are for "ASA1000v" and will not grab licensing without a VSM.

The ASA1000v is end of sale. The replacement is the ASAv which is deployed on VMware ESX/ESXi 5.X, KVM 1.0. The ASAv does not require the Nexus 1000v. The ASAv is a virtual firewall that has most of the functions of a traditional physical ASA. I have seen these used in a variety of ways including segmentation of data centers and VPN head-end devices.
