Hello together,

I would like to connect a Cisco Nexus 5010 to a Cisco 5020 with port channel and vpc.

I set up channel-group xx mode active on the Cisco Nexus 5010 ethernet interfaces and on the Cisco Nexus 5020 on the Ethernet interfaces channel-group xx mode passive.

at the command show vpc I get the output that the port channel are down. Can I connect only one Cisco Nexus 5010 to a Cisco Nexus 5010 via a port-channel/vpc?

# show vpc

Hi @beta_admin66

Just to confirm, do you mean you tried to configure a Nexus 5010 and a Nexus 5020 in a vPC domain?

If yes, then the issue is, as you already guessed, hardware incompatibility. You can configure a vPC domain only with two identical switches.

I would recommend you read the following vPC design guide: https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/sw/design/vpc_design/vpc_best_practices_design_guide.pdf  It's the best vPC whitepaper out there.

Stay safe,

Sergiu
