What are all the deployment options for the 1000V VSM? (Which of the following are true?)
1. A downloadable virtual appliance
2. Nexus 1010 physical appliance
3. Installable ISO on a VM
3. Installable on commodity server hardware

Hi Duane,
Yes, ESX/ESXi is required unless it is run on the 1010.
No, VMware Player is not a supported configuration.

Hi Duane,
Here are some additional data points, hope they help.
1. A downloadable virtual appliance
> Yes, the VSM can be deployed as an OVF/OVA (as a VM)
2. Nexus 1010 physical appliance
> Yes, the VSM can be deployed a VSB (virtual service blade) on the Nexus 1010 physical appliance.
3. Installable ISO on a VM
> Yes
3. Installable on commodity server hardware
> Yes, any commodity server hardware that can run ESX/ESXi would be a valid choice for deploying a VSM VM.
Thanks,
Sachin

Thank you for taking the time to answer! I just have one clarification.
So in the 4th option above, "Installable on commodity hardware", you have to install ESX and still run the 1000V as a VM?
I consider this the same as option 1 or 2.
Can the 1000V be installed on commodity hardware without ESX? For instance, can it run on a Windows server?
Is it a supported configuration to run in VMWare Player?
