NX-OS version upgrade from 6.0(2)U3(7) to 7.0(3)I4(7)

Hello there,

I am well aware that to upgrade to version 7.0(3)I4(7), we have to do it once we are on 6.0(2)U6(3a), and to upgrade from 6.0(2)U6(2a) or earlier, I am to first upgrade to 6.0(2)U6(2a), then to 6.0(2)U6(3a), and finally to 7.0(3)I4(7). However, I had come across an article a while back which stated that the incremental version upgrade should be from 6.0(2)U3(7) -- > 6.0(2)U5(1) --> 6.0(2)U6(2a) -- > 6.0(2)U6(3a) -- > 7.0(3)I4(7).

Can someone confirm which one is correct? Can I upgrade directly from 6.0(2)U3(7) to 6.0(2)U6(2a) as Cisco knowledge base states or am I to follow this incremental upgrade path i.e., 6.0(2)U3(7) -- > 6.0(2)U5(1) --> 6.0(2)U6(2a)?

Please advise. Thank you.

What is the Model of Nexus Switch here ?

in general here is the steps :

A Cisco Nexus XXX switch requires an additional step when you upgrade from a software version older than Cisco NX-OS 6.0(2)U6(2), otherwise the switch can fail to boot. You must first upgrade the switch to Cisco NX-OS Release 6.0(2)U6(2a), then to Cisco NX-OS Release 6.0(2)U6(3a), and finally to Cisco NX-OS Release 7.0(3)I4(7).

5 Steps follow :

1. Take configuration backup

2. read the each release notes carefully and understand your requiredment

3. upgrade to right os in maintenance windows, each upgrade need each reboot

4. test each stage before move to next level

5. make sure you have roleback plan available in case upgrade fails and not working as expected as before.

Thank you. I was able to resolve the steps with the implementation plan I had but thank you for responding.

Hi Jake,

We want to upgrade our customer switch N3K-C3172TQ-10GT from 6.0(2)U6(1) to 7.0(3)I7(6) and request you to share the correct upgrade path that needs to be followed.

I'm unable to find release notes for version 6.0(2)U6(3a)

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus3000/sw/release/70376/n3k_70376_nxos_rn.html#_Toc2286080

Note:
§ If you have a release prior to Release 7.0(3)I2(1), upgrade to Cisco Nexus 3000 Release 6.0.2.U6(3a) first and then upgrade to Release 7.0(3)I2(1) or later releases.

Compatibility check is done:
