Pvlan question

Hi..

How the PVLANs will work between multiple UCS systems and 7Ks that need to carry the PVLANs.

I do understand how it works in a single N1KV but what if I have multiple N1KVs and that same PVLANs is on that N1KV?

Looking for any information around using PVLANS on the Nexus 1KV and how it works running on UCS.

Looking for a good indepth document to understand any/all limitations on trying to use PVLANS on the Nexus 1KV when the ESX

running the VEM runs on UCS.

Thanks..In advance.!

Hi,

As UCS does not support Private VLANs, you can't configure your uplinks on the N1000v as regular trunk ports.

Therefore, you will need to configure them as promiscuous trunk ports. This can be done as per the config guide: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus1000/sw/4_0/layer2/configuration/guide/l2_4pvlan.html#wp1362083

Please let me know if you require further information or need any clarification

So after you reconfigure the Uplink Trunk to be promisuous do you need to create port-groups for the secondary vlan's that the Guest's will be put into as well? So here' the steps as I understand them.

1.) Configure primary VLAN

2.) Configure Secondary VLAN(s)

3.) Associate secondary vlan's with Primary vlan from the Primary VLAN.

4.) Configure Uplink Trunk port as promiscuos and add the vlan mapping command.

5.) Configure Port-Profile for Secondary vlan.

6.) Configure VM Guest vnic to be in Secondary vlan Port-Group.

What else am I missing?

Thanks

Jason
