Alert connectivity issue between ESA and SMA

I need detail method on how to detect if the ESA and SMA are unable to connect?

Can this be detected by an email from IronPort C600V Alert <alert@ces.cisco.com>

you can configure the alerts based on the environment as example :

Assuming you're on CES, Cisco's operations team will get and respond to alerts about ESA/SMA not communicating. 

The alert configuration mentioned elsewhere only applies if you're managing your ESA/SMAs (vms or hardware deployed to infrastructure you control)
