We just got a batch of new 7821 IP phones in and I cannot seem to get them to register with our CUCM (8.6.2.20000-2). I've added dozens of 79XX series phones in the past without this kind of problem, granted those were SCCP not SIP. The phones get an IP address and they definitely communicate with the call manager. They even download and update their firmware.
The odd thing I'm noticing is that the date and time are way off, by over a year. The status display has the same three entries over and over:
[03:36:16a,04/11/12] ITL Installed
[03:36:17a,04/11/12] SEP885A92D9B10D.cnf.xml.sgn(HTTP)
[03:36:20a,04/11/12] Time zone data download failed |
Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Do you have the required device pack installed? The needed device pack can be found here
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/devpack_comp_mtx.html. If you have installed the device pack already have you performed a reboot fo the cluster? When adding new device support a cluster reboot is required before the new phone models will register.

Hi Kyle,
There seems to be bug with this firmware but could not get details due to proprietary information.

As Joseph pointed out the default version do not support 7821.
"Cisco Unified Communications Manager Device Package Release 8.6(2) is required to configure and administer the Cisco Unified IP Phones 7821, 7841, and 7861."
Refer this pdf -http://www.cisco.com/web/software/282074299/107386/cmterm-devicepack-8.6.2.24103-2_Readme.pdf
If you still have problem after installing dev pack and cluster restart , please wireshark the sip messages and send us accross.
Thanks
Manish

Yes, the device pack was provided to me by a Cisco engineer. It was installed and the cluster was rebooted the same day. That was a few weeks ago though. I'll reboot the cluster again today for good measure and see what happens.

So rebooting the cluster again did indeed fix the problem. My net admin confirmed that he rebooted the cluster the weekend after we installed the device pack but I guess it wanted a second reboot. Thanks for all the time and attention to this. Sorry the resolution was so basic.
"When in doubt, reboot."

Did you put DN on line when you configured SIP phone (78xx) ?
It seems that you MUST put DN on line, to get SIP Phone registered.
