What would cause a 7960g to shut off when the ethernet cable is connected? No PoE is being used, power comes from power brick.

As a follow up.
In trying different things, I have noticed that the phone will not shut itself off when connected to the extra port on the back of another ip phone, only when connected to the network directly.

Andy,
Cisco recommend that you do not daisy chain ip phones.
You may be suffering from an old field issue pleae read this URL to see if you are affected.
