8.5.1 unrestricted accidentally installed on 7.1.5 restricted version

A customer of mine has accidentally installed the unrestricted version of 8.5.1 on the upgrade partition of communications manager 7.1.5-restricted.  They booted into the upgrade partition, realized their mistake and rolled back to the 7.1.5 partition.

Can I now install the 8.5.1 restricted version onto the other partition, since the active partition is still restricted, or is it forever locked to unrestricted now?

Hi Michael,

As per the documentation, once a partition is changes to Unrestricted, you can never install a restricted version in that partition or you cannot even do a fresh install of a restricted version in that partition.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/rel_notes/8_5_1/cucm-rel_notes-851.html#wp1893287

Even though you are on 7.1.5 restricted version in the active partition, as you will try to upgrade again to the restricted one, this will try to overwrite the config on the inactive partition which is already on the unrestricted and hence will fail.

The only option to install a restricted version now is to take the backup of your config, format the hard-drive and re-install the restricted version.

Thanks
