Good morning,
I'm in the process of getting a customer rolled out with 8851 phones and saw there is a feature where you can press and hold down an available key on a user phone and set a speed dial from it instead of using the self-care portal. Per the Cisco documentation, you press and hold an available key for 2 seconds and then a Define favorites option pops-up. Has anyone successfully utilized this feature? Is there something on the back end of CUCM like a parameter that also needs to be set? When I test by holding down an available key for 2 seconds or more, I get nothing. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

AFAIK you need 12.1 for what you're trying to do.

Are you running the latest FW available for your device?
FYI, from what I know, those speed dials won't sync with what you configure in CUCM, so keep that in mind if you want to use them.

I'm going to go double-check the firmware. Thanks for the tip about the speed dials not syncing as that's something the users definitely need to be aware of.

I verified that we are using firmware sip88xx.11-7-1-17 on CUCM 11.5, so I should be good on firmware.

After the upgrade to 12.1, everything is working. Thank you so much!

Glad to hear that, just got to test it myself and saw it's pretty easy to configure, the only drawback is the lack of sync between the device itself and CUCM
And if you configure a SD from CUCM on top of a local speed dial, it seems to have precedence over the local SD as it disappeared and shows the one from CUCM.

You're absolutely right about the speed dials not carrying over. The customer I'm supporting doesn't want to utilized the self-care portal, so I should be good there. Do you know if the 7841s would have any functionality like the 8800 series phones when it comes to speed dials manually from the phone or is that specific to 8800 series phones?

Seems to be only 88xx, I have a 7841 and nothing happens if I press a free button for 2+ seconds.
On the 88xx you get the option even on line buttons that are free.

I had a case open for this because the doc is pretty bad. You can’t see these as the admin so it is easy to overwrite them. The “favorites” feature is also pretty useless and doesn’t work as the doc initially described but they slipped in a sly edit to the notes to backpedal on functionality.
If you have standardized layouts you’re golden, or if you can grab a screenshot before you make changes good.
