8865 should support to register with Asterisk.

Yes, but if you bought the non 3PCC/MPP variant of the device, you'll have to configure it as older devices with manual formatting of all the configuration files as they only accept configuration formatted as if they would register to a Cisco call control, hundreds of threads in the community on that you can use as reference.

If your intent is to use it with 3rd Party Call Control, then you want to get the 3PCC/MPP variant of the device which has a nice configuration GUI for everything (enterprise FW has a read-only GUI which is mostly used for looking at the status and download debugs, not for configuration)

With what Java said, the non-3PCC/MPP firmware is a challenge. It is do-able but it is a challenge and a test of one's patience (and a lot of "zen").
You have two choices:
1. Continue with getting the phone to work with an Enterprise image; or
2. Pay a little bit of money and get the firmware converted to 3PCC/MPP image.
