9800 series 3pcc - XML PSK softkeys no longer working?

Hi there,

We're evaluating the new 9800 series phones on 3pcc (non cisco call control or server). One issue we've discovered with the MPP firmware is that "Programmable Softkey" (PSK) xml functions no longer seem to work on this series even though they worked on the 8800 series.

For example, I've logged into the phones admin web UI, navigated to Voice > Phone, set Programmable Softkey Enable to Yes, and then in PSK 1 field I added:

fnc=xml;url=https://ourxmlservicehere.com/path;vid=n;nme=SpecialFeature

and added psk1 to our Connected key list:

hold;endcall;conf;psk1;xfer;bxfer;confLx;xferLx;dnd;

However the phone seems to ignore this key in the Connected state and skips it.

Anyone know if the format for specifying fnc=xml PSKs has changed?

Thanks,

Jake

In case anyone else runs into this problem with new 9800 series phones like the 9861, it turns out XML services are not supported at this time for 3PCC/MPP environments, only on Cisco CUCM. This is a step backwards from the 8800 series which does support them. Documentation at:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/all_models/xsi/9-1-1/CUIP_BK_P82B3B16_00_phones-services-application-development-notes/CUIP_BK_P82B3B16_00_phones-services-application-development-notes_chapter_011.html#cisco-desk-phone-9800...

"This section applies to the phones that are registered with Cisco Unified Communications Manager. The currently release doesn't support XML applications on phones that are registered with Cisco BroadWorks."

Seems to also mean no xml apps for SIP environments.

Jake - we're wanting to use the 9800 series on a third-party calling platform, however it's almost May of 2025, these phones have been out for over a year and not one major third-party SIP Cloud Provider (Zoom, RingCentral, 8x8, Nextiva, etc.) are supporting them. I'm begging my Zoom rep to hound their device certification people because we like these phones and we're about to roll out Zoom Phone. I really want modern features that the Poly Edge series offers and all the tight integration to Zoom, but like the Cisco hardware. The 8841 almost fits the bill for us but it lacks Call Control (Zoom Desktop app dialing desk phone), plus it's 10 years old! How is your testing of the 9800 series going? What platform are you trying to get it working on? Love to connect.
