Adding wallpapers and ringtones to autoregistration

Aaron Ward

Kind of getting tossed into the turbulent seas of VOIP, so please bear with me. :P We are beginning a transition from a legacy telephony sytem into Cisco CUCM 10.5.2 and I'm being tasked with registering several phones. Our management wants a custom wallpaper and several additional ringtones on each of our new phones. Is there a way to include these during auto-registration? Thanks for the help! :)

Depending on device model, you can configure the background image in the common phone profile, then associate it to the universal device template to be used for auto-registration. This will assume all the images are already in the right TFTP directory and are working, might want to register a phone and use the manual background config to test before using this.

The ability to set the ringtone from CUCM is not in 10.5, it was added until 11.5, you cannot do that with the out of the box features in your version, you'd need a 3rd party alternative for the ringtone.

If all you want is to make the ringtones available to users, just add them to the TFTP as per the phone administration guides.

Working with 8851 models, Im having problems adding the background image in CUCM itself. Is it possible to change that background image at the bottom of the device page in the "Background Image" field? I'm trying to test changing the image on a single phone first before I try uploading it to a common phone profile.

I know the images work because you can find them on the 8851 themselves when you hit settings<wallpapers and they show up, can be selected and do work. I also checked to make sure the images are correctly configured as you said in this bug report

https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCus27001/?referring_site=bugquickviewredir

So at least I know its not that. But what would be the entire filename I enter into the "Background Image" field in the device page of CUCM of the set Im testing? Would it be the full TFTP:Desktops/800x480x24/imagetest.png or something else? (I tried asking almighty Google for a video tutorial, but all the ones I found had you changing the image on the phone itself, I was hoping for an easier fix)

Thanks again!

This is really for my own posterity, but it'll be helpful for anyone trying to do the same in the future! I was able to remotely change all of the backgrounds on the phones to my specific image and if you want users to be able to change their own backgrounds after you upload it, you can go back into the common phone profile after uploading the preferred image to the profile and check the "Enable End User Access." The sets under that profile will keep the preferred image as its background until the users choose to change it. If that makes any sense. I hope this helps someone out there.

Very Helpful!  Thank you!

Hi Aaron,

You need to edit the below files as per the requirement and upload into the TFTP directory for the phones to download automatically during registration.

List.xml

Ringlist.xml
