Does anyone know what generates the cisco greeting "backdoor is unavailable" message, when attempting to retrieve voicemails?

A person attempted to retrieve voicemail and got a message that "the backdoor voicemail is not available". This is on a Unity server, version 8.6.
We had rebooted all voip servers and that evening, this occurred. The problem corrected itself by the next business day. Cisco suggested that something might have not "mounted", but no one has ever heard of this problem before.
