Backup and Restore FM and COP files

Hi,

A mega cluster with 14 CUCM servers. Clustering Over WAN topology used for 13 seperate sites. One subscriber per site.  CM and TFTP services are running on each sub. We are upgrading from 8.6 to 10.5 on new Dell servers.   Version 8.6 is installed on the new servers. As mentioned, there're 14 TFTP servers each containing a minimum of 30 different files including phone firmware, locals, COP files, etc... Even Pub is being used as a call processor and TFTP servers. Don't blame me caus I am not the one who designed this.

Question:

Is there a way or a tool that I can use to backup all installed files in the production servers and restore them into the new 8.6 servers? Or my only option is to download and reinstall all files in each server?

30 files X 14 servers = 420 installations.

Thank you in advance for sharing,

MK

Hello MK,

If you are taking the DRS backup of your CM cluster that is running in production and then restoring the same on your lab environment then the files that you have uploaded to the TFTP file management should also be backed up as part of the process. There is nothing extra you need to do for this.

Regards

Deepak

Hi,

Thank you for replying.

As you can see none of the files were restored in the Lab server. Please see below.

Here's what the production Publisher contains:

And here's what the Lab Publisher contains after restoning the backup taken from production:

admin:show version active
Active Master Version: 8.6.2.22900-9
Active Version Installed Software Options:
ciscocm.version3-keys.cop

Thanks,

OK, but have you actually gone to the TFTP file management and are the files not there??? Not the COP files, but the related FW files for each model???

You installed the COP files, and then in turn, those "become" files installed in your TFTP, the backup does take the TFTP files.

Hi,

Here's what I see when I compare the TFTP file management for servers in production and Lab. Only the publishers contain the exact same number of files,

Production:                                                                          Lab:

Publisher                                                                            Publisher

TFTP Files(1 - 50 of 1 778)                                    TFTP Files(1 - 50 of 1 778)

Sub1                                                                                  Sub1

TFTP Files(1 - 50 de 1 628)                                  TFTP Files(1 - 50 of 511)

Sub2                                                                                  Sub2

TFTP Files(1 - 50 de 1 603)                                  TFTP Files(1 - 50 of 510)

It goes the same for entire mega cluster.  The number of TFTP files on the server in Lab are much less than the ones in production.

Thanks,

MK

Any idea how can I get all files restored in the servers in the lab?

Thanks,

MK

Hi again,

After restoring the CUCM servers in the lab, each subscriber (13 in total) is missing about 1000 files. My client is looking to see the exact number of files in each server in the Lab before turning them on in production. Does it mean that I have to go and reinstall 1000 files in each sub?

Do I need to open a TAC case?

Thanks,

Mk

Not sure what are your plans for upgrade. But to make it clear you only have to upload only cop files required for the upgrade and locale files (which are version specific). Rest of the files are copied by the DRS backups. So it will be lot less than what you are predicting - something I would say 2 x 14 = 28 uploads.

I have usually done upgrades manually as I feel I have more control over the upgrade process, specifically with the large clusters. Even with the PCD option as well I think cop file uploads are not automated. So you may not be able to completely automate but the number of uploads you are looking to would be significantly less than what you had predicted.

Other may chime in with their experience as well..
