Hello,
I have 2xVIC2-2BRI-NT/TE connected to a Cisco 2851 ISR. The problem is the four BRI circuits that are connected to this BRI module does not turn up automatically after router reload.
Below is the configuration:
interface BRI0/0/0
no ip address
isdn switch-type ntt
isdn point-to-point-setup
isdn incoming-voice voice
trunk-group BRI-trunks 4
!
interface BRI0/0/1
no ip address
isdn switch-type ntt
isdn point-to-point-setup
isdn incoming-voice voice
trunk-group BRI-trunks 3
!
interface BRI0/1/0
no ip address
isdn switch-type ntt
isdn point-to-point-setup
isdn incoming-voice voice
trunk-group BRI-trunks 2
!
interface BRI0/1/1
no ip address
isdn switch-type ntt
isdn point-to-point-setup
isdn incoming-voice voice
trunk-group BRI-trunks 1
I used straight-through RJ45 to RJ45 to connect the NT1 device to the BRI ports.
Please help.
Thank you,
Ricky

Hi,
which exact IOS are you using ?
And, is you config right ? There is no switch-type 'ntt'.
Finally, note, ethernet patch calbe is not correct of ISDN BRI cabling, du to different pair twisting. That is only an issue for long cables, however.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm using 12.4(13d) with ip voice feature set.
Below is the available switch-type for this router/voice gateway:
VoiceGateway(config)#isdn switch-type ?
basic-1tr6 1TR6 switch type for Germany
basic-5ess Lucent 5ESS switch type for the U.S.
basic-dms100 Northern Telecom DMS-100 switch type for the U.S.
basic-net3 NET3 switch type for UK, Europe, Asia and Australia
basic-ni National ISDN switch type for the U.S.
basic-qsig QSIG switch type
basic-ts013 TS013 switch type for Australia (obsolete)
ntt NTT switch type for Japan
vn3 VN3 and VN4 switch types for France
This device is currently installed in Japan.
Regarding the cables, do you have the specific cable specification and pinouts?
Thank you.

Right, forgot that ntt has non-standard naming.
BRI pinout is easy to find, use the search box above. However that is unlikely to be the issue.
Do you have network-clock-participate and select in config? Also, "isdn tei-negotiation preserve" helps in reducing s/t bus activity.

Also, if you can upgrade to 12.4(11)XJ4, there are no know issues with ISDN in that.
Finally please note that is normal that BRI interfaces are deactivated untile a call is placed or received.

Hello Paolo,
Thank you very much. You're a genius. The BRI circuits are really deactivated until you received a call or placed one.
I didn't change my IOS.
Thanks again,
Ricky

Thanks, but I'm no genius, only I've been fighting with ISDN since inception. That was many millions of years ago.

I've been trying to rate your posts. But somehow the site is not letting me. I will try again.

Hello Paolo,
One last thing, can you send me the Cisco document where it says the BRI circuits are deactivated by default until you placed a call or received one?
I need it as a supporting document just in case my client ask for it.
Thank you very much,
Ricky

Hi, your customer never had used before then :)
It's in a lot of documents. Search like "configuring isdn bri".
