(CAC) Gatekeeper v. Locations ???

I am sitting here considering my capitol request for 2012 wondering if I should move our deployment to Gatekeeper based CAC or just stick with location based. Just wondering if anyone had comments, opinions, or recommended reading.

I have 4 clusters deployed globally supporting just under 10,000 end points.

Thanks in advance.

Not a simple question.

Firstly, I think you should reconsider what is being compared. It isn't so much a question of "Locations-based" vs. "GK zone" CAC mechanisms. In some ways they are similar mechanisms. Your CAC solution may require multiple mechanisms.

I recommend reading through these documents:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/solutions_docs/voip_solutions/CAC.html

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/srnd/7x/cac.html  (or the 8x SRND if you prefer)

for your size of the cluster and numebr of clusters, i d totally use gatekeeper for CAC between clusters. with in a cluster you would use locations for cac. The location settings on the trunk should be carefully set as you dont want to mess any settings between the clusters so let the GK handle that...An alternate gk design would be recommended..
