I found an Asterisk doc that said I should be able to find SIP firmware at the site below. But when I go there I see only a PDF. Is Cisco still supporting SIP firmware for the 796X series of phones? Where would I find the firmware? Is there an SKU that would allow one to purchase a Cisco phone with the SIP firmware already loaded on it??

FW is in download center, you just need to look for it.
Go to download center and follow this path:
Voice and Unified Communications > Cisco Unified IP Phone 7965G > Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Software > 8.5(2)
HTH
java
