On the customers site, we have a Cisco infrastructure using Cisco 3750 switches and Nortel VOIP phones. The strange thing is, every now and then, a phone will drop out and freeze for no reason, yet the data side of the network, which passes through the phone, still operates fine ?. On other cases, the interface will jsut say Line Protocol down ( not connected)
To get the voice side back working, and sometimes the data, it is a case of breaking the POE connection to reboot the phone ( Shut/No shut). On the log, there is no error conditions displayed. Has anybody else come across a problem like this using these types of phones. We are literally talking maybe 1 or 2 phones a day out of 2500 phones. No pattern, just random areas ?

we are having similar issues.
we have approx 7000 nortel 2004 handsets attaching to various cisco 4506,4507 and 4006 switches.
the phones are running firmware version 3.0 (0604DCD) and we are looking to upgrade to 3.2 (0604DCJ)
What f/w are you using?

I also have nortel 2004 hansets I was wandering if could share your QOS configuration for a 4500 switch? I have been looking everywhere for information on that subject.

Hi there,
How are the phones configured for their VLAN setting ?. Is it DHCP options (phone get's a temporary lease and then picks up an extended option for VLAN) or are the phones manually set ?.
Cheers,
Steve
